For many years the topic that has been talked about most, is the “Intelligence”. What is intelligence, who has it at which level, things that effects the intelligence positively or negatively and how to improve it, is a subject of curiosity and discussion for ages. If we consider that academical education and success has become the most important topic today, the potential of intelligence at the children has become the most important part of the topic. All these aside, after discussed for years about “what is intelligence” finally a result and notion that everyone agrees on has been found. Now we know, intelligence is a really complex system that can not be defined by one or two sentences, and many things we thought we knew about intelligence are not that true. We understood that there is no numeral or verbal intelligence,
And it is a situation that consists of several diffirent individual fields. Otherwise we would not be able to explain how a musician who is not good at math even though music comprehends math, can be so good at music, or how can a person who is not good verbally can have such high scientific capacity.
Thanks to Howard Gardner, a learnin psychologist that marked the last 30 years with his work, the definition of intelligence is changed. Gardner proves that intelligence does not have only one dimension, that we can not think of it as verbal or numerical intelligence, and it must be considered in many dimensions. According to Gardner, if a person can produce a product, can find effective solutions to problems, that person is intelligent and we must look at the intelligence in a way that is diffirent that we already do. And as these fields can be related to many diffirent parts of life,it is wrong to try to fit people in one or two standard definitions.
These works of Gardner has seen a lot of interest by whole world, and became and accepted reality in the topic of intelligence. Now we know that each individual has diffirent talents and an intelligence field that he belongs to. And so Gardner defines intelligence as:
Intelligence is the capabilitiy of being able to solve the problems and create new products in life on the face of new and diffirent situations and events. So intelligence is collective of personal talents and skills of each individual that he owns and uses to fit in this ever-changing world. At the end intelligence is our capacity to do good to our community and present beneficial products to it.
Multiple intelligences was defined under 7 types of intelligence, but later at 1995, another type of intelligence was added and now is defined with 8 types of intelligences. Gardner is lately working on the 9th intelligence which he calls existential intelligence.
Principles of Multiple intelligences
Firstly it is good to know the principles of multiple intelligences:
- Human intelligences can be defines, improved and measured. - All theories and scientific studies support the theory of multiple intelligences, and accept it.
- On a study that is about one intelligence, we can benefit from other intelligences. .
-There is possibility that there are other intelligences diffirent that the ones we already know and define. Factors such as personal traits, environment, believes, judgements effect the development of the intelligence.
- Intelligence is made of diffirence processes and each type of intelligence is dynamic.
- Each individual has their own abilities and intelligence is specific to each individual.
- Each person has diffirent intelligence developement. - Each intelligence should be considered alone. The structure of intelligence occurs with the effects of diffirent factors such as attention, memory, perception, problem solving.

As we know, human brain consists of billions of cells that are called neurons. These are cells that comes with the birth, but they are not active. According to the reading intelligence theory, as the connections between these neurons increase and speed up, these cells will become active and we will start to use a higher capacity of our brains. The way to do it comes from having a healty reading habit. Also according to this theory, the better a person speaks and understand his own language, his success in other fields will improve. A person who can ready and understand his own language well, can be successful in all intelligence types, even though he or she has diffirence abilities and predispositions.
